10% GST to apply to overseas online transactions

Treasurer Joe Hockey has announced today that a 10% GST will apply to all overseas online purchases from July 2017.

"This will ensure that there is a fair and equal treatment of all goods and services," Mr Hockey said in a press conference this afternoon in Canberra.

"This will deliver competitive neutrality for Australian businesses."

Brown Marmorated Stink Bug 2015-16 Season - Proposed Measures

We have received information from the Department of Agriculture regarding proposed measures for the 2015-16 Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) season, that will affect 'high risk' cargo departing United States ports.

Arrangements have been aligned between Australia and New Zealand with a seasonal risk window for BMSB between 1 September 2015 and 30 April 2016 inclusive.  The measures will therefore apply to targeted goods departing USA ports during this time, irrespective of the date the goods arrive in Australia.
